tallulah

I fell in love with Izzy and Ivy Designs the first time I saw them featured by Pattern Revolution in January 2014! I bought the Pippa Jacket pattern during the January sale and consequently joined the Izzy and Ivy Design Lovers facebook group to see what everyone else was making. After seeing all the amazing creations, I kicked myself for not purchasing more patterns during the sale. Luckily, they recently had another sale and I made sure I snatched up a few more patterns this time around. I was especially excited about the new Emory dress pattern release and the Tallulah dress. Honestly, what I really love about these two dresses are the pockets. I am completely obsessed with cute pockets. What can I say? Since we are still stuck in the winter that will never end, I decided to start with the Tallulah because it has the long sleeves. I also had some extra bunny fabric I got from JoAnn's in my stash from a couple of Easter seasons ago, so I decided to make an Easter dress for my little girl. I just loved everything about the Tallulah pattern from the minute I started. The instructions were extremely easy to follow and the pattern pieces fit perfectly together. An added plus is the super helpful facebook group I mentioned earlier and the extremely nice and sweet designers. They are definitely dedicated to customer satisfaction. I was very happy with how this dress turned out. My girls love wearing soft knit and cute affordable knit fabric is hard to come by. So, I just love being able to combine knit and woven fabric.
The gathered pockets on the Tallulah are super adorable, but since my pockets are white, I really wanted to applique a bunny rabbit on the front. I tried the applique with the gathered pockets and it just didn't stand out for me. So, I decided to use the Emory pockets on this dress instead. This dress is actually a size 4 and I used the size 4 Emory pocket and lengthened it to the 7/8 size to get more surface area for my little rabbit appliques. I did have some trouble topstitching on the knit pockets at first. But I found that if I topstitch using my edge joining foot before I attached the pockets, it created a much cleaner topstitch.
I am definitely looking forward to making more Tallulahs, and with the adorable gathered pockets next time. Most importantly, I can't until I can get to Pippa, Evie, and Emory on my projects list. So many cute patterns, so little time! At least my daughter can enjoy the ones I have been able to get to. I think this one is a keeper! Oh, just a few last photos of my girl in the dress with some cute Libby's circle leggings from CKC. Aren't little girls in pigtails just the cutest!?!
